My name is Chance Myers, I was born and raised in Lenox. A town with one traffic light resting in the heart of south GA. We’re home to peanuts, cotton, produce and in my case Stucco. My family has been involved in a mix of that for generations. Growing up I spent my summers working for my dad where I learned the Myers Stucco trade. It was hard work that few people are willing to do; it was that experience that molded me. At home my grandpa had withdrawn from the Stucco business he started to raise cattle and work his farm. Every afternoon I had the freedom to roam the land which usually entailed venturing off to Brushy Creek. There I had the joy to live out a childhood every boy dreams about. In the fall I hunted for deer, ducks, and squirrels. In the spring I trapped raccoons and fished for largemouth bass.
Of course like most people I had found no way to make a living by solely hunting. Upon graduating high school I was accepted to ABAC, a local community college where I majored in diversified agriculture. In my mind it was the next best thing to hunting, not to mention I thought my grandpa’s lifestyle was pretty cool. After college I was hired by a local farm operation to manage a nursery. It consisted of 81 greenhouses and 8 pivots. I spent the next 5 years eating, breathing, and sleeping produce transplants and pine seedlings. It was there that I concluded every job requires at least one if not both, your mental or your physical ability. My mental ability was forced to a whole new realm of toughness. My boss along with the owners accepted me like family, mentored me, and further developed my confidence.
As much as I loved it, I found it harder to cope with the fact I wasn’t home much and I wasn’t getting younger. My father’s health suddenly suffered due to Covid while my grandpa was in the process of moving into assisted living due to Alzheimer’s disease. With my first child on the way, it served as a reminder that life is short and what really matters. I had missed spending time with my wife Jessie Lynn. I knew with our son on the way, I had to be more intentional. After all, I was setting the example for my family, the standards by which priorities are measured. My wife is the glue that holds it all together, she encourages me to be the spiritual leader. It is safe to say she holds her own in that regard. I can attest that she has always looked out for my best interests, she truly is my soulmate.
It was at this same time I had begun to really hone in on COVO, a business that I had made a run at with graphic T-shirts and hats. The idea was to start it there, then transition into the hunting industry later. But like most startups it didn’t go as planned, it was in 2021 that I went to brainstorming how to pick it back up. I recollected my years of hunting and the troubles I encountered. Over and over I remembered the difficulty I had carrying shotgun shells for duck hunting, so it was that problem that I decided I would tackle. I made it my goal to build an apparatus that would eliminate individual slots for each shotgun shell while simultaneously increasing the security of retention. I spent months thinking about it, prototyping with no success. Then late one night I just broke down praying about it and the business. The moment I opened my eyes, I looked up at my refrigerator and saw a magnet. My mind connected the term “magnetic” with the components “steel shot” and from there I had to test it. Lucky me, I discovered it wasn’t just the shot component that was steel, but also the component referred to as brass.
When I was a young boy a man came to a local church that I didn’t attend at the time. He was invited to speak and give a duck call demonstration while the church provided a meal that consisted of wild game. The whole purpose was to get men to attend that wouldn’t necessarily come to church on Sunday. Using hunting as the platform the spokesperson was there to introduce something bigger and more important, Jesus. That person was none other than Phil Robertson, I remembered being on the front row mesmerized at his duck call presentation but still to this day I can’t remember anything about his speech that night. Years later I purchased his hunting videos, his duck calls, and then watched Duck Dynasty explode. Although I hadn’t remembered that speech from my childhood, I am almost certain I have heard it again by now. Phil Robertson’s story stuck with me. I highly doubt I would be writing this today if not for his influence. His dream helped me envision my own and believe it would work.
So now I have a product, the COVO Vendetta Shell Pack. I called it a Shell Pack because I thought it was degrading to refer to it as a shell holder due to my frustration with previous apparatuses for this purpose. Named it Vendetta due to the fact I wanted to avenge the failure of my first startup attempt, plus it sounds like something a man should have. Referring to those Duck Commander videos I watched growing up. I related to that same sense of war like, facial paint, John Wayne attitude. To me the term Vendetta is another depiction of that image. It retains 24 Shotgun Shells using our Magnetic Field Technology. Offers multiple options for use in flooded timber, to dry field layout blinds and really anywhere in between. I build them all in my shop, source my materials from the US and I am proud to label them Made in the USA. The Vendetta has proven to be a difference maker in the industry with lots of happy customers who love to hunt with gear that doesn’t fail under abnormal conditions, circumstances that hardcore waterfowl hunters typically find themselves in.
The Vendetta was the product COVO desperately needed and Jesus is the rock on which it has to build. Coincidentally, Jesus is also the rock on which I have to build. Moving forward will not be easy but I definitely have a vision. Much like the process of praying for direction that night in my shop, so it will have to continue if I want to see that vision more clearly. So, that’s my story, short and sweet, but in all honesty if you have read this much about me, I ask you to please take the time to read about the one that knows who you are. I would be glad to meet you, but keep in mind I can build a Vendetta and take you duck hunting. Jesus on the other hand created you and offers the gift of eternal life! Jesus loves you! That my friend is in all seriousness powerful.
